Use headphones if possible.

Criteria:

1. You CANNOT use an animated film.

2. Requires at least

  • At least two trailers from two different films

  • Have at least 20 cuts in the film.  This project requires substantial editing.

  • 4 voice over recordings

  • 5 titles

  • 1 new music track

  • at least 6 new sound effects.

4. Make it as close to exactly one minute long as possible.

Here's an example but this student only used one movie to make the fake trailer.  Remember, you have to use two.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD VIDEOS FROM YOUTUBE

This is very important to carefully follow these instructions or you may infect the computer with viruses!

1. Open a new tab in your browser and go to Youtube.com

2. Find the video on Youtube that you want to download. Right click (or control-click) on the address bar, select the entire address and COPY it.

3. Go to this website: ssyoutube.com

Note the pop-ups saying “Mac is full of virus?”

Just ignore all of those things - they are traps.

4. Click on the "Search or Enter Link" box and Paste in the URL for the song or video you want to download.  Press START.

5. CLICK ON Get Link. The system will process, then give you a green Download button.  Click that button….

But be careful!  The website may now do a bunch of sneaky things - it might open a new tab, or a new webpage that you didn’t want.  Or it may give you some pop-ups.  Ignore any of those tabs or pop-ups and click the Download button until you see the file downloading in the background:

This is the file you want to import into your movie project.  It will usually save to the “DOWNLOADS” folder.

Search for the DOWNLOADS folder, then click and drag it into iMovie.

**** WARNING ****

This website is free, and loaded with traps!  It will try to trick you into downloading spam, malware, viruses, adware, and other bad stuff.  Follow these instructions carefully.

-Sometimes these websites will open a new tab and send you to some other stupid website (sometimes blocked by PPS).

IF this happens to you, just ignore and close this new tab and go back to where you were and click try again.

**** WARNING ***

6. Click CONVERT.

Do not click the "allow notifications" button -

it's a trap!

7.  Click the "Download" button

WARNING: Sometimes these free websites will show inappropriate pictures and ads.  We apologize if this happens to you.  Please just ignore the inappropriate junk, close it and continue on with your work.

7. Click MP4 for video, and then the START button.

Then the conversion process will begin.

8. Also - all these annoying pop-ups will appear trying to trick you into clicking them and saving  bad junk to your computer.  It's a Trap!!  Don't fall for it!  (Especially the "Update Adobe Flash" trick - just ignore it)

9. When the conversion is complete, click the black Download button.

You will see the file being added to the Downloads folder on your computer.

Click on "Show in Finder" and you will see that the downloaded file is now in the Downloads folder.

If any pop-ups or new tabs open up, just ignore them or close them.

10. After you click "Save File," go back to your iMovie project.

11. In iMovie, click on the "Import Media" button.

If you don't see the button, you can click on the FILE menu and select "Import Media."

10. A dialogue box will open.

11. From here, you search for the video file you just downloaded.  It is waiting for you in the Downloads folder.

12. Click on the file, then click on the blue Import button, and the video should now import into your iMovie media folder.

From here, you can select bits and pieces of the video to use in your project.

That's it, and that's all!

Some other tips:

- If you want a video, choose MP4 as the file format (the last three letters after the period in a filename).

If you want the audio only, choose MP3 as the file format.

- Do NOT double-click a .dmg file!  They are installation files that will install the garbage programs we don't want.  Just ignore it and click the Download button a second time.

-Sometimes these websites will open a new tab and send you to some other stupid website (usually blocked by PPS, or maybe they not).

IF this happens to you, just ignore and close this new tab and go back to where you were and click try again.

PROJECT 7 - iMovie Book Review

Grading Criteria:

  • 60 seconds or longer (not including the black slugs)

  • Titles - At least ten titles, free of spelling, punctuation, grammatical errors.

  • Author's name.

  • Who is the Protagonist(s)

  • Who is the Antagonist(s)

  • Did this book win any awards?

  • Voice-Over Plot Summary in 5-6 sentences (without giving away the resolution of the book)

  • Describe the Conflict

  • Why should we read this book?

  • Five or more images about the book

  • Soundtrack (music)

  • You can record yourselves talking to the camera, or just do voice over narration with no video.

Step 1:

Working solo, or with one other student, select a book to review.  Think of it like a book report or a TV commercial.

Tell Mr. Gilley the title and author of the book you have chosen.

NOTE: No Harry Potter Books.

It's not that I don't like Harry Potter, I'm just sick of hearing about them. :^)

EXAMPLE 1 EXAMPLE 2 EXAMPLE 3

Step 2: Open iMovie.

Create a new project with your name in it ("Danny and Juana's Book Review").

In the Projects Folder, click the + "Create New" button to create your project if this is your first time using iMovie.

Choose "Movie."

This is what your editing workspace looks like.  The top area called "Events" is just raw footage that you or someone else may have imported.  The bottom area is your timeline where you will drag clips to create your movie.

Now you need to import some raw footage.  You can do this by surfing the web and finding images of the book you are reviewing.  Save those images to the desktop and then drag them into the timeline.

Step 3: Use iMovie to create a 60-second review or commercial of your book.

We NEED A QUIET CLASSROOM FOR THIS PROJECT

-Use earphones to record narration and voice overs.  Let me know when you need to record and I will ask the class to get extra quiet.

-Use a background soundtrack.  Adjust the volume of this track to 25% - 50% so it doesn't overpower your voice-over recordings.

You can find music in iMovie under the Audio tab:

-Use at least 5 five different images of the book or related images.

Save images from the web by right-clicking on them, select SAVE to DESKTOP, then drag and drop them into iMovie.
